The Tide That Binds

I've watched the tide leave Simpson Creek and flow through Nassau Sound
I've watched it ripple, watched it roll with strength that can't be bound,
But from dunes of light with sand so white to where a river winds
It's more than water more than moon that makes the tide that binds.

The salty current in my veins reminds me where I've been.
Now in memories now in dreams it's more than now and then
It's love and loss it's paths that cross, it's where our lives entwine
And as I'm moving close to you I feel the tide that binds.

(Chorus)
Now I'm standing by the ocean and I'm watching breakers pounding at the shoreline
I know that without fail the water rushes in and out like I had set the time
Connecting things like creeks and bays with pilot whales and manta rays in emerald brine
And connecting all my nights and days
To the warm embrace
Of the tide that binds.

(Instrumental - 2 lines)

A heart is beating in the waves beneath a silver sky
It's like a clock, it's like a pulse, it's like a lullaby
It sets the rhythm for my life in case I fall behind
It turns and pulls me back again just like the tide that binds.

(to chorus)
